Re: motorbiking in the snow
Ive been riding all week in the Snow and ice and ive only came off once wich was my fault for showing off cause my mates road was pure ice so i put it into 6th and got my bike into red line while doing 15mph then it just went sideways then i hit some1's van Smile no Damage to the bike and ive only got a little hole in my leg
Crikes Jon. That's not the way to go....!
On pure ice, you take off in second gear (ride the clutch and push on the throttle).
Going down hill, you slip into high gear and ease on your brakes. Like in a car; on ice when you go downhill, you actually need to get into 3rd or 4th gear to go down, so that engine braking never 'jolts' the smooth ride.
Any sudden movement on the ice will shift your momentum from the back and spin you into a tail. So you have to ease gently on and off the throttle all the time.
And add those stabilisers of course

Mines out side the house and its been there since friday. All these B roads around here are barely a go in a car never mind a bike. Besides I have nothing else to do

Re: motorbiking in the snow
well the result was.... he came off his bike today.....
Black ice at around 45 mph.
lucky enough hes not badly hurt but his lovely brand new bike now needs a new brake lever and has scratches, he had only just got it back from a repair that happened when he was transporting it over here on a trailor and it fell over ,
hes not having a lot of luck with it ,poor guy

Wow. Not a nice way to spend Christmas.
I think watching motorcycle DVDs is mmuch safer until the black ice thaws!
Numptiness on the roads don't help either. I had so many cars pull out in front of me without signalling it' s incredible. I felt like the 'odd one out' who insists on signalling and sticking to the highway code here!

Matt was another victim of the ice last night, he binned it again, that No.3 for him now.

Re: motorbiking in the snow
Erm I'm not sure what he was wearing, not much knowing Matt
Yeah he fine, he said his bike doesn't look to bad, his new indicators are smashed up, well they were already broken from the other day when it fell off its stand.
His bike, I don't think it can get much worse tbh, both sides are scratched, they would need filling and respraying.

Re: motorbiking in the snow
It's not just you two - it'll be anyone who's silly enough to ride without understanding the road conditions in this kind of weather!
So many in London keep on binning it. I don't know why people would bother with the risk unless they're trying to make an insurance claim...
